5 Reasons to Make Nut Milk at Home

Here are 5 reasons you should consider eliminating store bought milk and make nut milk at home instead!

    1. Freshness: Homemade nut milk is fresher compared to store-bought options. You can make it in small batches as needed, ensuring that it's always at its peak freshness and flavor. This also means that you can avoid the need for long-term preservatives that are often added to commercial nut milks. You can insure your ingredients are organic, your water is filtered and you know exactly what you're putting in your body!
    2. Glyphosate: The odds are very high that the oats used in oat milk contain an assortment of pesticides, including glyphosate. This chemical has been linked to increased risk of cancer and other chronic diseases when consumed over time.     3. No refined sugars or "natural flavors": While many store-bought milks include added sugar and "natural flavors" - a deceptive category that includes thousands of flavor enhancing ingredients that make products more addictive - the simple recipe we highlight below is sugar-free with NO natural flavors! 
    4. No Seed Oils: Seed oils are foreign to the body and wreak havoc on our body's ability to digest. This is very inflammatory and can lead to heart disease, obesity and diabetes (among other chronic imbalances).
    5. Reduced Packaging Waste: By making nut milk at home, you can reduce your reliance on store-bought cartons, bottles, and packaging materials, thereby minimizing your environmental footprint. This is particularly beneficial if you use reusable containers for storing your homemade nut milk. We find Ball or Kerr jars with lids that seal tight are great to maintain freshness!

    Here's a simple recipe taught to us by our dear friend Rich Pauwells, co-founder of Rich Nuts - the best sprouted nuts on the market! Our personal favorite for nut milk taste and texture is organic raw cashews:

    • 1 Cup organic raw nuts
    • 1 tsp organic coconut oil
    • A pinch of sea salt
    • 3-4 Cups water (less water = creamier milk)

    After soaking raw nuts in water for 4-6 hours, combine them in a blender with the other ingredients. Blend thoroughly, store in reusable jars and refrigerate. We find this lasts in the fridge for approximately one week. It's THAT simple!
